When do I find out if I’m accepted?

Once the applications close on March 4th, 2014, all accepted applicants will be contacted via email by March 6th, 2014. This acceptance email will include information on the next steps of purchasing a ticket and providing a payment of $30. Selected attendees that require subsidized ticket pricing will also be provided with more details in this acceptance email.

Why does TEDxUW have an application process?

The goal of a TEDx event is to spark new ideas and conversations amongst our attendees and the global audience. To do this we have initiated an application process to screen all applicants and select attendees. The application form is your way to showcase your interest in TEDx and demonstrate your commitment to sparking new ideas in the world around us. Our team will be evaluating your applications solely based on your application form, so it is suggested that applicants take time to develop their application. All applications will be reviewed, and we greatly appreciate everyone’s interest.

What qualities does the reviewer look for when screening applications?

We are particularly interested in accepting individuals who think out of the box, and are eager to share their new ideas and perspectives. Creativity, enthusiasm and interest in Technology, Education and Design are important qualities we look for in your answers.

A large part of the TEDx experience is the diversity of the attendees and so we look forward to seeing a wide variety of applications from various disciplines and walks of life. We encourage undergraduate and graduate students from all faculties, alumni, and all individuals affiliated with the University of Waterloo and/or Communitech to apply as our objective is to bring together a diverse group of passionate individuals.

How can I be involved if my application was not accepted?

Unfortunately due to the high number of applications we receive, not everyone will be able to attend the conference. However, please do not be discouraged as we will be livestreaming the entire event. You will still have the opportunity to participate in the entire TEDxUW experience over the web.
